Kitulgala

One of Sri Lanka’s foremost adventure tourist destination for those who love adventure tourism in the rainforest.

Kitulgala is a small town is located on Colombo, Hatton motorway via Avissawella, 95km far from Colombo. This tow is coming under Sabaragamuwa province which gets two monsoons each year and is one of the wettest zone rainforest, places in the country. The name of Kitulgala is derived from a palm tree called Kitul. Plenty of that tree found in this area. Kitul palm syrup is a prime ingredient of most of traditional Sri Lankan sweets. One of the famous desserts is curd sweetened with Kitul palm-honey. Furthermore, many varieties of Bananas and other fruits and vegetables are grown here.

Kitulgala is popular among local and foreign travellers to adventure-sports of white-water rafting, thickly forested hills and rainforest camping, bird watching and cave exploration. young and energetic travellers are not missing this place in there tour.

1957 Oscar-winning classic movie by David Lean “Bridge on the River Kwai” was shot here on the banks of the Kelaniya Ganga. The river running through the lush vegetation is exceptionally pleasant and secured locations to swim and do water sports.
